The Welsh Government, and construction firm Costain, have announced a settlement in their long-running dispute over the A465 Heads of the Valleys road expansion scheme in Wales.
Hugh James, has provided legal support throughout the dispute resolution process, with lawyers from its Construction team, managed by Partner Matthew Stevens, leading adjudications and arbitrations on behalf of its client, Welsh Government.
The dispute related to who should bear liability for the additional costs of the project. While the details of the settlement will remain confidential the dispute process has been largely supportive of Welsh Government’s interpretation of the contract terms. The timing of further payments to Costain is linked to them achieving identified programme milestones.
Commenting on the settlement, Partner and Head of Construction, Energy and Project, Ioan Prydderch said today:
“We’re proud to have supported the Welsh Government through this process and are pleased that it has resulted in settlement. This should now draw a line under the matter and allow all parties to move forward with this important infrastructure project in Wales.”
