Today marks International Nurses Day 2021. It’s held every year on 12th May to commemorate the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and to recognise the achievements of the nursing profession.
Undoubtedly, the last 18 months has seen the NHS put under an enormous amount of pressure with the on-going Coronavirus pandemic and we are continually grateful for the incredible work of the nurses and healthcare professionals on the frontline.
This year, the theme for #IND2021, set by the International Council of Nurses is: ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare’. This focuses on the changes to and innovations in nursing and how this will ultimately shape the future of healthcare.

That’s why, over recent years, we have operated an education fund to provide financial bursaries to pay for registration fees and travel and accommodation expenses at national and international training events. Many specialist nurses have utilised the fund to attend educational events conferences hosted by Lung Cancer Nursing UK, the British Thoracic Oncology Group and the International Mesothelioma Interest Group, to name but a few.
