This is the second part on The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) report, published on 20 October 2022. They discuss IICSA recommendations for reform of the Limitation Act 1980, the appointment of a children’s minister, and a redress scheme.
IICSA was set up in 2014 following a series of high-profile child abuse scandals, some of which dated back decades, with the most notable involving the late BBC television star Jimmy Savile. It said institutions and politicians had prioritised reputations over the welfare of young people, resulting in allegations effectively hidden away for many years, while there were still inadequate child protection measures in place.
IICSA took evidence from survivors of child sexual abuse and those concerned with child protection as well as faith leaders and representatives, the police, the justice system, and politicians.
In its report IICSA makes a series of recommendations which include the mandatory of child abuse.
