Our Military Team are proud to be supporting the Royal British Legion’s 2022 Poppy appeal as part of Remembrance Day.
On Saturday 29 October, Francesca Bamsey, Lowri Scott and Christopher Wood volunteered at Cardiff Poppy Day, a fundraising collection day for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Our Military department has long supported the Royal British Legion. Given that we work with service personnel daily, advising them on a range of military service legal matters, we recognise the difficult impact that military service can have on their lives and on the lives of those around them. The work carried out by the Royal British Legion is invaluable in ensuring that they can get the help that they need, whenever they need it.
Volunteering at Cardiff Poppy Day enabled us to show our support by raising awareness of the Poppy Appeal and collecting donations by selling poppies. We volunteered alongside The Queens Dragoon Guards who shared their experiences of the Armed Forces and with the Royal British Legion. It was fantastic to see the support of the public for the Appeal, with many individuals taking the opportunity to ask about the work of the Royal British Legion and share their own personal experiences with the Armed Forces. We were proud to raise £110 in donations.
The event brought the public and the Armed Forces community together in Remembrance. There was entertainment throughout the day and lots of people wandering around the city wearing red poppies in support of the Armed Forces community.
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s largest fundraising campaign held annually during the period of Remembrance. The first Poppy Appeal was held in 1921 where the Poppy became a symbol of Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. This year’s Appeal takes place from Thursday 27 October until Remembrance Sunday on 13 November. The money raised during the Appeal will enable the Royal British Legion to continue providing life changing support to the Armed Forces community including serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
In honour of Remembrance Day, on Friday the 4 of November, the team also walked 11 miles for the 11th day of the 11th month, making the most of one of our Corporate Social Responsibility days.
