Hugh James teams support the 2wish World Elephant Day Walk

This month, our Clinical Negligence and Serious Injury teams took part in the World Elephant Day Walk in the very sunny Bute Park, in Cardiff.

2wish provide invaluable support for those affected by sudden death in young people. This event is another important example of the way in which the charity provides support during the most difficult days and brings families and friends together.

The 2wish mascot is an elephant called Gorgeous George, named after the founder and CEO’s son George. The elephant has been chosen by 2wish as firstly, elephants never forget, in the same way as families never forget their loved ones, and secondly, 2wish say that the subject of child death remains the elephant in the room. The charity hope to change this, to ensure that families are given the opportunity to talk about their child and that every child and young person is remembered.

For the first time in its history, the World Elephant Day Walk took place in South, West and North Wales. There was an overwhelming sense of strength, resilience, love and support from families, volunteers, young ambassadors and staff. There was also lots of water and plenty of sun cream!

Maddie Allen, a Solicitor in the Clinical Negligence team, said:

“The World Elephant Day Walk was a very special event, and we were pleased to be able to attend and show our continuing support for the important work undertaken by 2wish. Following a sudden and unexpected death in a young person, family and friends may feel isolated and unsure of where to turn for support. 2wish ensure that support is available if and when required.

“A petition led by 2wish’s founder and CEO, Rhian Mannings, has resulted in the release of the first immediate support pathway from the Welsh Government being launched at the 2wish World Elephant Day Walk event in Cardiff. This pathway focuses specifically on immediate and ongoing support for those affected by sudden and unexpected death in children and young people and was launched by the Deputy Minister for Mental Health, Lynne Neagle. The World Elephant Day Walk allowed an opportunity for family and friends to come together and remember, and with the launch of this new pathway, 2wish and other charities across Wales will be able to extend their reach and ensure that no family is left without support.”

Hugh James are extremely proud to have sponsored the World Elephant Day Walk 2022 and look forward to continuing our work with 2wish.
