Hugh James and staff from South Wales Police traffic teams, are gearing up to complete a static relay to support the Andy Cox Challenge 2022 – a high-profile fundraising event organised by RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims.
The teams will be completing a 32-mile static relay, carefully chosen to represent the victims and families affected by the 32 serious and fatal road traffic collisions on roads across the South Wales Police force area in 2021.
Lawyers from the Hugh James Catastrophic injury team will join colleagues from the South Wales Police Serious Collision Investigation unit, Forensic Collision Investigation unit, Casualty Reduction Team, and other specialist units. Representatives from Go Safe, the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership, will also be participating in the event, which takes place on Friday 20 May, at the force’s Road Policing Unit in Gwaelod-y-Garth.
All funds raised from the relay will be donated to the RoadPeace initiative. You can pledge your support via the fundraising link which has been set up for the relay.
The Andy Cox Challenge takes place between 16-22 May and follows on from the success of last year’s event. Andy Cox is the UK’s top roads policing officer and will lead a week of awareness-raising & fundraising across the UK, to highlight the impact of road danger & the need for urgent action to reduce road death and injury. He will be covering 30 miles per day through a combination of running, walking and cycling to mark RoadPeace’s 30th anniversary.
Last year, Andy was supported by a number of UK police forces, bereaved families, and members of the public, but this year he is stepping it up a gear. He is urging every police force in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to join in the challenge to raise significantly more money and, in the process, significantly more public awareness around road danger.
