At Hugh James, we believe in advocating for fairness, especially when it comes to our loved ones’ care. Every individual deserves the right support and resources in their time of need. Today, we share with you the touching story of our client’s journey in reclaiming nursing care fees for his late Aunt, Irene Langley.
Irene Langley
From her days as a professional ballroom dancer to her later years spent with her beloved husband Harold, Irene lived a life full of adventure and joy. Despite facing the challenges of dementia, Irene’s spirit remained strong, a testament to her remarkable character.
The financial burden of care
As Irene’s health declined, the need for specialised care became apparent. Moving into a care home was a difficult transition, not only emotionally but also financially. The family soon realised the significant financial strain as they depleted Irene’s estate to cover the escalating costs of her nursing care.
NHS assessment
In 2009, after a thorough assessment by the NHS, Irene’s care needs were deemed high and severe. However, a sudden change in criteria left the family without the financial support they desperately needed.
Irene sadly passed away at the age of 100 in January 2017, her estate had dwindled, leaving little behind for her surviving family members.
How we helped
Our client sought assistance from our specialist Nursing Care team. Under the guidance of Kirsty John, our client’s case was handled with professionalism and care. What initially pursued as a pursuit for financial redress transitioned into a diligent endeavour to uphold Irene’s legacy and secure acknowledgment of the accurate care needs assessment.
We were successful in securing eligibility for Irene Langley for the period from 11 November 2008 to 8 January 2017. As a result, over £300,000 has been recovered on behalf of her estate.
