Just in time for the bank holiday weekend, and following much pressure from the sector, the Welsh Government has announced that the implementation of the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 will be put back by 4 and a half months, and that it will now come into force on 1st December and not 15th July as originally planned.
The news will come as a welcome relief to most landlords – whilst much hard work has been done to be ready for the Act over the past 8 months, there is still much to be done in order to prepare the necessary contracts, policies and procedures and ensure that landlords – and all of their staff – are ready to work in the Renting Homes world.
The remaining regulations will be issued in July, leaving 4-5 months of clear preparation time once the final rules are in place. The delay will give us all an opportunity to take stock of preparations and plan the remaining work. The task is still a significant one but the six months we now have will be valuable.
We will be in touch with each of our clients directly to discuss where we are in the preparation phase and plan the work yet to be done.
