An ex scout leader has been jailed for sexually abusing two children he met at a scout camp. Jonathan Withey was jailed for 16 years at Nottingham Crown Court. Withey had abused his position of trust in order to sexually abuse the boy and girl concerned over a long period of time.
In this latest podcast Alan, Dani, and Hannah discuss the case, and the many cases where they have successfully represented victims and survivors of sexual abuse committed in youth organisations including the scouts.
They highlight particular themes that they have identified in these cases for example the fact that there are often multiple victims, and the abusers are often much respected creating a barrier to reporting concerns.
The victims and survivors suffer both physical and psychological injuries which can have a life time impact. Specialist legal representation is needed to achieve successful outcomes which enable the survivors to achieve recovery, and often to rebuild their lives.
