In this episode of HJ Talks About Abuse, the team discusses a deeply disturbing case that has shaken the community, Ako Hussain Pur, a 32-year-old tradesman, has been convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison for the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in her own bedroom. The horrifying incident took place while Pur was carrying out building work at the family’s home in Sheffield.
The Shocking Details
Pur’s heinous actions unfolded on June 5, 2023, when he exploited his position as a tradesman to commit a horrific sexual assault on the young girl in her bedroom. During a four-day trial at Sheffield Crown Court, the jury heard how Pur, in the presence of his colleagues, entered the child’s room, forcibly removed her trousers, and sexually assaulted her. Disturbingly, he then warned the victim not to disclose the assault, and when confronted by the girl’s father, denied any wrongdoing.
Judicial Response
Following the trial, Judge Graham Reeds KC expressed his dismay at Pur’s deceit throughout the proceedings, emphasising that the victim should have been safe in her own home. Pur was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13, and the judge sentenced him to seven years in prison.
Recognition of Bravery
Detective Constable Amy Blakey, praising the “tremendous courage” of the victim, acknowledged the incredible strength displayed by the girl’s family. Blakey stated, “It is thanks to her bravery and the incredible strength of her family that a dangerous man is now behind bars.” While recognising that nothing can fully reverse the trauma caused by the assault, she expressed hope that the verdict would bring the victim and her family a certain level of closure.
Legal Consequences
In addition to the seven-year prison term, Pur has been issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, placed on the sex offenders register, and instructed to serve an additional year on licence after his release. These measures aim to safeguard the community and ensure Pur is held accountable for the reprehensible act he committed against an innocent child.
Conclusion
The case of Ako Hussain Pur serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability children may face, even within the supposed safety of their own homes. As society grapples with the aftermath of such unthinkable betrayals, it underscores the importance of vigilance and the unwavering commitment to justice for the victims.
