Olivia Lloyd, Trainee Solicitor in the Military department discusses the Veterans Survey which gives veterans the chance to have their say on their experiences.
The Veterans’ Survey is being carried out by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Ex-Military Personnel have the unique opportunity to share information on their lives after service through the Veterans’ Survey. This survey explores the circumstances and lifestyles of UK veterans, and the results will assist the UK Government in achieving their goal of making the UK the best place for veterans to live by 2028.
The survey will be open for up to 12 weeks and gives veterans the opportunity to describe their experiences of being a veteran and of using government services. This is the first ever government funded survey for all veterans across the country to provide their views.
Who can take part in the survey?
The Veterans’ Survey is open to all UK veterans who are aged 18 years and over, living in the UK and not currently serving in the UK Armed Forces.
Family members of veterans are also able to take part in the survey if they are aged 18 years and over, are living in the UK and have someone in their immediate family who has previously served in the UK Armed Forces.
What information is being used?
The veterans’ version of the survey will cover a range of topics including lifestyle, work, access to services and health and well-being. Veterans are only required to answer questions that they wish to answer.
Any statistics or results produced will not identify individuals. Veterans’ right to a private life is respected – the information that is provided in the survey is anonymous and confidential.
The survey can be completed in under 30 minutes on the ONS website.
