The specialist asbestos claims team at Hugh James have been instructed by the family of Mrs Carole Brown to investigate a civil compensation claim following her diagnosis and death from mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer, the only known cause of which is previous exposure to asbestos. In order to pursue a successful civil compensation claim, we need to be able to demonstrate how Mrs Brown came into contact with asbestos.

We believe that Mrs Brown’s husband, Mr Roger Brown was exposed to asbestos whilst working as a scaffolder for MAC/Metal Agencies and United Builders Merchants in Bristol and Cornwall and brought the harmful substance unwittingly back to the family home on his work clothes.

Whilst working for MAC/Metal Agencies in Bristol from approximately 1962, Mr Brown worked in Berkley Power Station, Oldbury Power Station, Hinkley A and B, Didcot Power Station and the Royal Ordinance Factory in Bridgewater. Mr Brown also worked in tin mines and lighthouses throughout Cornwall and at St Austell’s clay pits from 1971 to 1977.

Mrs Brown’s family are now appealing for help from former colleagues who might be able to shed some light on how Mr Brown might have come into contact with the harmful substance whilst working for the above companies.

Her family commented: “It would be extremely helpful for anyone who worked with Roger to come forward and help us with the investigations. Carole has left a huge whole in our family and she is sorely missed, so anyone with any information, please come forward so that we can bring justice for Carole.”

Asbestos-related partner at Hugh James’ Cardiff office, Richard Green, has said:

“It would be really beneficial to be able to speak to some of Mr Brown’s former work colleagues. I would encourage anyone who has information about asbestos exposure with this company to come forward, even if they didn’t work directly with Mr Brown. Mrs Brown’s family will be extremely grateful to anyone who is able to provide assistance”.

Anyone who worked with Mr Brown, or who worked for MAC/Metal Agencies or United Builders Merchants, who has information regarding asbestos exposure should contact Richard Green at Hugh James on 02922 675793.

Armed with the experience and specialist knowledge that is required for this complex area, Hugh James has helped thousands of people who have been either injured or developed an illness as a result of their work.
