Adrian Backler was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2022. Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos and is a terminal cancer.
Adrian worked for the computer manufacturing company GEC Computers between 1978 and 1988. The GEC office was based in Borehamwood and was the former Elliot Automations building, which was shaped like an ‘E’. Adrian was based on the second floor of the building and would often take the stairs, as opposed to the lift.
During Adrian’s employment, he worked in the production, programming and technical support teams, before leaving the company in 1988.
Adrian believes he was exposed to asbestos during his time at GEC, whilst asbestos removal was taking place within the building in the 1980’s. He specifically remembers this taking place in the corridor, off the left-hand side of the main entrance.
We are looking for any former colleagues who can confirm how exposure arose at the time and ideally anyone who worked in GEC Computers at the same time as Adrian. If you worked with Adrian at any point during his time at GEC Computers and recall asbestos removal taking place, please consider contacting us to assist with his claim.
